Gates, Hybra-Drive will develop new hydraulic
hybrid technology
Gates
Corporation,
Denver
,
Colo.
,
has formed a partnership with Hybra-Drive
Systems LLC, Deerfield, Mich., to develop new hydraulic-hybrid
powertrain systems.
One system will be
retrofitted to the 6.2-liter diesel engine in an H1 Hummer.
Gates
spokesperson Geoff Keast, Director of Advanced Product Technology,
says the partnership will allow both firms to develop new products
for the expanding hydraulic hybrid vehicle drive market.
“Our
research indicates that hydraulic systems offer efficiency benefits
beyond that offered by electric hybrid drive systems,” Keast
explains. “We obviously see considerable growth opportunities for
Gates, but we also have a stake in making a valuable contribution to
the reduction of energy consumption and vehicle emissions. We have
partnered with Hybra-Drive because they have demonstrated unique and
innovative hydraulic designs that will simplify the controls of the
vehicle and achieve optimum efficiency,” said Keast.
Design
work will be performed at Hybra-Drive Systems’
Deerfield
facility and at
